Your data

Where is my log kept?

On your device only. There is no account and no server, so nothing you save is ever sent to me. The full detail is in the privacy policy.

How do I move my log to a new phone?

On the old phone: More, then Your data, then Export my log. That writes one file. Send it to yourself however you like. On the new phone: More, then Your data, then Import a backup, and pick that file. Import merges by id and skips anything already saved, so importing the same file twice is safe.

I deleted the app. Is my log gone?

Yes. Because nothing is stored on a server, removing the app removes the log with it. Export before you delete, and before a phone upgrade.

How do I delete everything?

More, then Your data, then Reset all data. It asks for confirmation twice, then clears everything on the device.

Can you recover my log?

No. I have no copy of it, which is the point. Export files are the only backup that exists.

Using the apps

Does it work with no signal?

Yes. Both apps are built to be used where there is no service. Every species page, every park, every rating and the whole guide work offline. Map tiles are the exception: tiles you have already looked at stay available, but a part of the map you have never opened cannot be drawn without a connection. Load the map over wifi before you leave and it will be there when you arrive.

Why does the map ask for my location?

Only to centre the map on you, to tag a sighting with where you were, or to place a report. It is never used in the background. If you decline, everything else still works.

How do I install it on my home screen?

On the web version in Safari: tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen. It then opens fullscreen and works offline, like an installed app.

The app looks like the old version after an update.

Close it completely and open it again. The app keeps its files on your device so it can work offline, and it swaps in a new version on the next launch rather than mid-use.

Is it available in French?

Yes. More, then Appearance, then Language.

on-wildlife

Where does the species information come from?

The guide covers 778 species found in Ontario. Fishing seasons and limits follow the Ontario fishing regulations. Bear safety follows the province's Bear Wise guidance. Reference photos, when you have them switched on, come from iNaturalist under their contributors' licences, credited on each photo.

Is this an official source for fishing rules?

No. It is a convenience copy to read in the field. Before you fish, check the current regulations from the Government of Ontario. Seasons and limits change.

What is the community feature?

An optional feature for people who run their own server. Nothing is shared unless you enter a server address yourself and switch sharing on. I do not run a server, and none is included. When it is on, coordinates are rounded to about five kilometres and times are blurred to the hour, so a sighting cannot lead anyone to a den or a nest.

Something on the community screen is offensive or wrong.

Use the report control on the item to hide it and flag it, and email me at katsuma123@gmail.com. If the server is one you run, you control what is on it. Reported items are hidden on your device immediately.

on-site

Which parks are included?

Every reservable Ontario Park, down to campgrounds, individual sites and trails.

Are my ratings public?

No. They are yours and they stay on your device. You can share a single park review as an image if you choose to, using the share button, and that only goes wherever you send it.

Is this made by Ontario Parks?

No. It is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Ontario Parks or the Government of Ontario. Book through their official channels.

Accessibility

Both apps follow the system text size, including the largest settings, and both work with VoiceOver. If something is hard to read, hard to hit, or hard to hear announced, tell me and I will fix it. That is a bug, not a preference.
