A field journal for the wildlife you run into around Ontario. Mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, trees, and plants. See a moose, hear a spring peeper, catch a walleye, or spot a turtle on the road, and you can log it in a couple of taps. It covers 258 fact-checked Ontario species right now, with insects and fungi still to come.

What it does

A guide to Ontario species, with tips on how to tell them apart, where they live, the best time of year to see them, and whether they are at risk.
Logging that fits what you are recording. Fishing tracks length, weight, bait, and whether you kept or released the fish. Birding tracks the count and whether you saw or heard it. Everything else records whether you saw it, heard it, or just found signs like tracks or scat.
A map of your sightings. Drop a pin by tapping the map or using your location.
A safety section that puts the dangerous plants and animals in one place, with guides for ticks, bears, and wildlife on the road.
A quick way to report a bear sighting or a road hazard like a turtle crossing.
Badges to collect and a stats page that shows how much of the guide you have logged.

Privacy

Everything you log stays on your phone. No account, no sign-up, no tracking, and nothing gets sent anywhere. The only part that needs a connection is the map, which has to load its tiles. There is an option to share sightings for conservation, and it stays off until you turn it on. If you export your data, the locations of at-risk species are blurred so they cannot be pinpointed.

Works with

Each species links out to iNaturalist for photos and eBird for bird records, along with Ontario's Species at Risk information. Bear sightings point to Bear Wise, which is the province's real reporting line. You can export everything you have logged to a file whenever you want, so none of it is locked inside the app.
